After a contribution of 16 years, the United Kingdom ended its contribution to the EUFOR mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In a flaw lowering ceremony in Sarajevo, EUFOR commander Major General Reinhard Trischak praised the UK for its outstanding professional commitment. The UK’s involvement in stabilizing the former Yugoslavian country started in 1992 with a contribution to UNPROFOR.
The UK leave lowered the number of participating countries from 20 to 19, something that Reinhard regretted: ““The UK contribution to EUFOR has been outstanding in terms of commitment, performance and professionalism. It is, therefore, with sadness that we see the departure of UK’s personnel from EUFOR”.
The United Kingdom ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina was present at the ceremony and praised the close relationship between the two countries in a closing speech. “Thank you for acknowledging the UK’s commitment, not just in Bosnia and Herzegovina but also to all the other EU Military Missions around the world. It has been our privilege and our pleasure to serve with you and your staff.”
